Frequently Asked Questions

Who wrote The Stick of Joseph in the Hand of Ephraim?
The text was written anciently by several prophet-historians who lived between 600 BCE and 420 CE. Two of the final prophets abridged and summarized the works of their predecessors and produced the version that survived to modern times. The abridgment was written on metal writing tablets, or plates, and buried around 420 CE. These plates were discovered in 1824 in upstate New York, USA, and first published in 1830. For more information, see Appendix B: “Source Documents and Groups” in the book.
Who was Yosef ben Yosef?
Yosef ben Yosef (Joseph Smith, Jr.) was the prophet called by God to receive, translate and publish the ancient text in modern times. He lived from 1805-1844 CE. Like Moses, he received his mission from God and saw Him face to face.
How does this version differ from the first English version?
The initial English version was aimed at a Gentile audience and in many ways concealed the underlying Hebraic nature of the text. This current version has replaced much of the Gentile terminology with its correct Hebraic equivalents, and also includes many footnotes and references to aid the reader in understanding the text.
Who published this current version?
This current version is the result of volunteer work by a group consisting of both Judah and Joseph. They worked with the most correct version of the original English text and made careful modifications to highlight the true Hebraic nature of the underlying text. In doing so, they were careful not to change any meanings or alter the text in any way other than modernizing the English and substituting Gentile terms with their more correct Hebraic equivalents.
Who gets the money from book sales?
Electronic copies of the Stick of Joseph can be downloaded at no charge. Physical copies of the book are intentionally sold at publisher’s cost to eliminate profits. In the unlikely event there is any surplus generated, it will be used to provide copies free of charge to those who cannot afford a physical copy of the book. Nobody involved in this project is paid for their work.
How can I know if this is true?
The best way you can judge the truthfulness of the text is to read and consider it for yourself! Ask yourself where the text came from and how it landed in your hands. Consider the prophecies in the Tanakh about God’s work of restoration in the last days, and whether this text may, in fact, be exactly what God promised would come. Consider the nature of the text and possible explanations for its existence.

The text itself urges readers to take the following steps:

Behold, I would exhort you that when you shall read these things, if it be wisdom in Elohim that you should read them, that you would remember how merciful YHWH has been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that you shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts. And when you shall receive these things, I would exhort you that you would ask Elohim the Eternal Father, in the name of Mashiach, if these things are not true. And if you shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Mashiach, and he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Ruach HaKodesh. And by the power of the Ruach HaKodesh, you may know the truth of all things. (M’roni 10:2)

I believe the text. What should I do next?
The work of gathering and preparation is underway. The God of Israel invites all to repent, return to belief in him and obedience to his commandments. The way he has asked us to manifest our repentance and faith is by being washed by immersion in the name of Messiah. If you desire to be immersed, please contact us and we will send someone to help you accomplish this, at no cost to you.

The next step is to gather in study groups and fellowships of equals, who care for one another and assist one another. This can be informal as simply a group of friends who gather to study. There is no need to join any organization or pay any money. Faithfulness to God is required; faithfulness to an organization is not.

Is this effort related to Christianity?
Modern Christianity is a corruption of something much older that originally belonged to the Jews. The modern, Catholic/Protestant version of the Greek-named Jesus has become a caricature and a mockery of the Jewish Messiah, used primarily to demand obedience and gather money from believers. We want nothing to do with such ideas or efforts.

This effort is to invite ALL people, whether Jew or Gentile, to return to the God of Israel, and accept the coming Messiah. This necessarily means letting go of false and corrupt teachings and embracing true understanding. This is why The Stick of Joseph was sent into the world in modern times. It was God’s plan from the beginning that truth would “come forth out of the earth” (Psalms 85:11).
